Hello Friends, Today we are going to talk about a famous judgment known as KM Nanavati VS. State of Maharastra.

A Sensational case of a Naval Officer. The case name is KM Nanavati Vs State. 

 This case was so famous that in the year 1973, a film of the sudden name was made om it. A film named RUSTAM was made in 2016 and a web series came in 2019.

KM Nanavati VS. State of Maharastra is related and relies on Sections 290, 300, and 302 of the Indian Penal Code. This section is what it was related to it was a murder case which is considered to be one of the most famous cases in India. The verdict of the Nanavati case came in 1961, but it remains a matter of discussion even today.

KM Nanavati was a Navy Army officer accused of killing his wife’s lover.  It was alleged that he had killed his wife’s lover by firing three consecutive shots from his licensed service pistol. He said that this was done for self-defense. Nanavati often stayed away from home due to his wife was a good friend of his. He had an affair with him. Then Nanavati got information about his wife’s illicit relationship. Nanavati proceeded to confront Prem Ahuja. Some days Nanavati went to his level office with bullets in his pistol and then completed official duties and went to meet Prem Ahuja. Nanavati asks him when Prem Ahuja accepts both Nanavati’s wife and their child. Ahuja replied in the negative.

Three shots were fired and Prem Ahuja was killed.

Nanavati was produced before the Jury and Nanavati was acquitted by the Jury.

However, the judge considered it wrong and decided to overturn Jyoti’s decision, he took the matter to the Mumbai High Court overturned the decision of the jury, and found Nanavati guilty.

He was sentenced to life imprisonment but later after 3 years, Nanavati was acquitted.
